Education Literacy remains a major barrier to the development of African countries. Despite the progress achieved in increasing the overall literacy rate since 1990, the proportion of African adults who cannot read or write is still significant. African children are thus the future of the continent.
Education is key to sustaining democracies, improving health, increasing per capita income, and conserving environmental resources. Recognizing the importance of basic education, Bread and Water for Africa® supports our partners in Kenya, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Zambia to provide basic education and vocational training for African men, women, and children.
In FY 2009 Bread and Water for Africa® provided $51,000.00 in cash grants and $429, 806.00 in donated items including books, school supplies, school furniture and other educational materials.
