Needy & Disadvantaged Children's Home

Local Partner: Needy & Disadvantaged Children’s Home                       Local Partner Director: Roselyn Freeman, Coordinator                          Area Served: Moyamba, Sierra Leone                                               Program Goal: Care for and educate vulnerable children                    Program Services Provided: Housing, clothing, medical care, food, education and activities for vulnerable, orphaned or needy children.
Number of Program Beneficiaries: 43 vulnerable children, 102 students, 12 employees

Program Summary:
The program was begun after the founder witnessed the murders of two of her adult sons during the devastating war in Sierra Leone. After witnessing many atrocities, she made the choice to dedicate her life to positive action helping children who had lost their parents during the war, thus began the home.

The home has cared for over 100 vulnerable and orphaned children, including some with physical and other disabilities. Currently, the home serves 43 children in residence and 102 students at their on-site primary school.

Recent additions to the program include a piggery and telecentre / internet cafe which provide continuous income for the home.

Bread & Water for Africa® provided funding for general support for the children’s care and programs.
