We’ve worked with partners to provide clean water across Africa for many years. Whether it’s for a school, clinic, or farm, these life-changing water projects improve health, reduce hardship, and offer hope for a better future. Thanks to our generous supporters, our work continues in 2025 and beyond.
We currently work with local organizations in these African countries: Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Our programs span across Africa through trusted partnerships with locally based charities and community organizations. The spring at Bugongwe did not appear overnight.
Villagers carved a path through brush, carried stones and timber on their shoulders, and laid each piece by hand. Together, they built the foundation of a safe water source—brick by brick, step by step.
An education session followed: how to care for the spring, how to protect the water chain, how to ensure its future. A committee was elected, including children, to guard what was now theirs.
And when the work was done, joy erupted.
"They danced, they sang, they jumped with joy for having free access to a clean, safe, reliable water source," recalled David.
For the first time in living memory, Bugongwe had water they could trust.

In Bugongwe Village, Uganda, water once came at a terrible cost.
Families walked hours each day to reach alternative sources—dirty, open pools where cows and children alike drank side by side. Mothers washed clothes in the same water they feared giving their children.
"The available community water sources are not safe, not clean and not enough for the villages," explained David Ssagala, director of Bega kwa Bega.
For 600 people, water was not life. It was danger. Each drop carried the threat of disease.
💧 A reminder: for one in three people in sub-Saharan Africa, this is still the daily reality.

Tanyaradzwa lost her parents in a car accident and now lives with her grandmother in Mutukwa Village, Dora. Without money for school fees, she was often sent home and had to take small jobs during the holidays just to afford food.
Because of the support of donors, her school fees are paid, and her story has changed — “I am now happy to go to school every day,” she says.

Every child we support has a story. At five, Takudzwa lost his father, and soon after, his mother left him with his grandparents. Understanding that education is the key to a better future, they enrolled him in primary school, even though paying fees was a constant struggle.
With support from Bread and Water for Africa®, his school fees are now covered, allowing him to attend every day without fear of being sent home. Fighting back tears, he said: “I never thought I would be able to pass like this.” He hopes one day to care for his grandparents, just as they cared for him.

Many children in Zimbabwe miss out on school because they can’t afford the fees — yet education is one of the strongest tools to break the cycle of poverty.
That’s why Bread and Water for Africa® has partnered with Shinga Development Trust for years covering children’s school fees so they can stay in class without the fear of being sent home.📚
In 2025, 52 elementary and 30 secondary students will receive funding for tuition, access to counseling, career guidance, and skills development, plus ongoing monitoring of their attendance and academic progress. — and each of them has their own story worth sharing.
